We want you to have a great time at Bryn Derwen. It is a beautiful space and the furnishings are very special. The cottage is light and airy, warm and friendly and has all the gadgets we think you will need to have a comfortable stay.
The Calvinistic Methodist Church of Wales built the Salem Chapel in 1867. Shortly afterwards the Chapel sold surrounding land to a David Jones who, we assume, built the small terrace of cottages next to the chapel. For some reason, for which we have no explanation, as one of the smallest cottages in the terrace, Bryn Derwen owns a small piece of oak woodland, above the cottages and also the village green which is laid out in front of them. The hold of the chapel was firm and a covenant was placed on the villiage green at the time of the build forbiding the sale of alcohol there and this covenant is still in place today!
Bryn Derwen is a 140 year old cottage but has a fresh,
contemporary feel. Inspiration for the style of decoration comes
from Jo's work as a designer in India and Nepal. The aim here has
been to keep the house as simple as possible, but everything in
it, should be functional, elegant and beautiful.
Furnished in subtle and neutral tones, an accent of colour in each room makes the cottage feel uncluttered and fresh, and above all, romantic. Floor covering throughout most of the cottage is coir, with luxurious hand made rugs on top.
All of the rooms are light, bright and spacious. The
south facing sitting room has stunning views, has a beamed ceiling
and inglenook fireplace, a comfy bed sofa, and arm chairs around
a log burning stove. There's satellite T.V., DVD and plenty of books
& games. The kitchen/dining room, with a pantry, is cosy and
well equipped. There are three beautiful bedrooms, one with a king
size, Rose wood four poster, a twin room with a double Rosewood
four poster and a single bed and a single Kerala style bed in the
attic bedroom. The family bathroom has a jolly, nautical theme.
